Are you on team agency? Team in-house? Or are you just… tired?
This old debate never dies, and some strategists, like Michael Miraflor, have had enough.
The latest from the endless rivalry…
In the flexible work landscape, agencies are having a hard time filling positions that would have been snapped up pre-pandemic.
Meanwhile, companies are beefing up their in-house marketing teams, and have been for a while. A 2018 report said the number of companies moving marketing in-house had shot up 52% in the past decade.
But does that really mean in-house is “winning”?
The fact is, “there’s a time and a place for both,” said MarketerHire’s director of marketing, Tracey Wallace.
But often, people overestimate the power of an in-house team — and underestimate the cost and time it takes to build them, Wallace observed.
… that leaves out freelancers 😑
The major thing that gets lost in the agency vs. in-house debate: the third option. By some estimates, 50% of the marketing and advertising workforce will be freelance in the next 10 years.
The future of marketing will involve some agencies, small in-house teams, and freelancers. We may be biased at MarketerHire, but we expect freelancers to have more and more power.
